Rivers and Canyons of the southern Alps

Rafting, white water swimming, kayak, canoe-raft and canyoning programme.

- Between the Italian border and the Serr-Ponçon Lake the Ubaye follows what is probably one of the most beautiful, natural, navigable watercourses in France. It comprises more than 50 kilometres of unspoiled valley, with stunning landscape, and a succession of rapids with evocative names such as "shark'stooth" and "spring roll". The diversity of its sections, from class II to V means the Ubaye is able to offer "gentle" navigation for the more sporty.

-You will find below the technical sheet for a weekend rafting on the magnificent Durance, Ubaye and Bachelard rivers and a weekend rafting on the Ubaye and the Guil with all the information you require.

The rivers of the Southern Alps

The rivers of the Hautes Alpes and the Alpes de Haute Provence between Grenoble, the Italian border and Marseille are home to some of the most beautiful water courses in France - with the added benefits of the Mediterraneen sun. Coureurs de riviéres invites you to discover this white water paradise over a weekend, racing down the most spectacular rivers of the region : the Durance, the Ubaye, the Bachelard and the Guil.

White water Weekend on the Durance, the Ubaye and the Bachelard

First day

Rafting and canoe-rafting on the Durance and the Ubaye

After a welcome and the essential technical briefing, we will embark upon the Durance at Saint Clément. This is a great point from wich to discover this superb valley and familiarise everyone with the techniques of tackling a river by raft. Those who already have white water experience may paddle this course by canoe-raft: you are bound to have fun in the great waves of the Rabioux! We will lunch where the Durance meets the Serre-Ponçon Lake and then be taken to the Ubaye Valley (45 mins Embrun-Le Lauzet). In the afternoon we will paddle the "king's course" of the Ubaye by raft : the Martinet-Lauzet where, deep in an unspoiled valley we will tackle rapids with evocative names such as"The Hoover" or the "Shark's tooth".

Night at the Relais du Lac in Lauzet.

Second day

Rafting on the Ubaye and the Bachelard

In the morning we will follow the" sports" course down the Ubaye by raft which features - depending on water levels - the"ex-infranchissables" (ex-impassable) of the Fresquière. Lunch on the river banks. In the afternoon we will discover the Bachelard, a tributary of the Ubaye rising in the upper valleys of the Mercantour. This steep river will appeal to those who love technical rafting.

At the end of the day - depending on water levels - the most intrpid can tackle the"ex- infranchissables" of the Ubaye, the Fresquière/Martinet bridge, one of the "must" of rafting in France! Dinner and night at the Relais du Lac.
